I am gold in both programs. I often use priceline to book my rooms and I have generally been treated better by Hilton than Starwood on priceline stays (despite any official policy to the contrary).

Hilton usually provides gold checkin (a huge benefit at places like the Waldorf), free breakfast coupons and/or lounge access, and almost always a better than average room. At Starwood you are treated like the poor cousin and lucky if you get comp health club access. I'm not suggesting they have an obligation to provide me with benefits but Hilton employees seem happy to oblige.
