Wow, you are eagle-eyed! Yes it was some kind of stuffed toy type decoration. I had a quick glance when I arrived and meant to look at it more closely but forgot. I think it had a bell and hook to hang it, perhaps on a Christmas tree?

I think it's reasonable to say that this is a very different type of hotel from the much larger establishments. c.50 rooms compared with hundreds. It hasn't been designed or built to deliver large buffets for hundreds of guests at any of the meal services, and laying out the same range as a 300-400 bed hotel might do would likely be very wasteful, even if they had sufficient space. You are actively encouraged to order as many of the cooked to order dishes as you like at breakfast, and most guests appeared to be making the most of that. I went down to breakfast late and there weren't any problems with availability of pastries (which were also to a higher quality than those I'd seen at a Sheraton and a Marriott in the prior 3 days), so perhaps you just hit on a bad day. That said, if an enormous buffet is preferred to cooked to order then other hotels may be more suitable.

I've been up there but didn't use the pool. There are a few pics further up in this thread. For me, I would say it feels a more relaxing environment than SGS, but it's on the 9th or 10th floor so not quite the same elevation as Surawongse.

Yes, very much. I'd say it is a long leisurely breakfast type place where you get to try a lot of things you wouldn't usually see. The cooked to order works for me, I'm not a fan of buffets. A longer stay might require an elasticated waistband...
