I have had the staff at Flight Connections change me from LHR-DUS to LHR-BRU before, under the condition that they would not be obliged to get / pay for me to go to DUS. Don't remember but it may have been due to the DUS flight being cancelled. I think it's both that they are empowered to make changes, and are also somewhat more trained in handling IRROPS, when the passenger shows up there. Granted, that one was pre-COVID.
So, by all means, go to Flight Connections and ask if you can move to the LHR-CGN/DUS service due to the misconnect.
