United refusing to credit miles claiming it went to a partner airline

Hi all,
found myself in a slightly frustrating situation with UA after a recent trip to Australia with Thai Airways. The trip was London - Bangkok - Sydney outbound then Melbourne - Bangkok - London return. When I got back I found the London - Bangkok & Bangkok - London had been credited to my MP account but not the flights to Sydney or from Melbourne. I don't know how this happened as I gave my MP number to the travel agent when I bought the tickets.

I got the Sydney flight credited but had to email UA as its mileage request form wouldn't recognise the flight details. When the same thing happened on the Melbourne - Bangkok request UA told me that the miles had been credited to Thai's program. The only problem is I am not a member of that frequent flyer scheme.

UA customer service only seem to reply once to emails, so you can't create an email trail with anyone. The last customer service rep I spoke to said I would have to go to Thai and ask them to "remove" the miles from their FF scheme (how, when I don't have an account?) and then send me a letter confirming this which I should forward as proof.

Before I contact Thai I was just wondering if this had happened to anyone else. I wouldn't be that bothered but it's almost 6k in business-class miles, so not going to drop it.

All advice/suggestions/guidance welcome. Thanks
