Yes - this was meant to be a special treat for them and now they are already approaching it upset that they won't get to experience Club Suite, but a far inferior product. Had they known this would happen they would have booked Virgin Upper class where the disparity between old and new is not quite so significant.
They did their research, looked at routes and flights that had Club Suite etc, and then found out it didn't apply to them today...
