I imagine this wasn't the biggest issue of the night, but I am sure you are aware about the restrictions for take off and landing. They certainly haven't fundamentally changed in a decade. So the pillow best go behind your back or in the overheads during take off. On a full flight there won't be spare pillows. And yes, that is going to apply to everyone, regardless of status, it's just that a GGL may be more aware of how to handle the issue.
There is only a soft benefit to GGL recognition onboard, which I get on 90% of flights, but the real GGL benefits lie elsewhere.
