It is indeed union in the pods. We have two different machines depending on the frame. One uses the nespresso type pods and another which uses a puck shaped insert which is in a coffee filter like material. Both pods are usually loaded and we have regular and decaf in both. There is however a limited number and there is usually far too many decaf loaded!
