Question about a $50 statement credit

I stayed at a HGI over Thanksgiving. Then on my December Amex statement there was a $50 credit from that HGI. Is this the same $50 credit people are talking about? I actually thought it was a $50 service recovery rebate from the hotel for a service issue.
Thanks. I realize that perhaps no one can really answer this question.
