Hello everyone, while I have avoided ITA for a good length of time, it recently became a partner for flying blue again and I thought it might be worth trying their newest business class product back from a work trip on the continent.
My day started early in the shambolic MUC airport where I briefly visited the refreshed Air France lounge. It was busy, but catering and staff were pleasant and it was a nice break from the terminal.
Shockingly modern compared to the terminal.
The A320 sector from MUC to FCO was uneventful, but catering was good and the staff were friendly and accommodating; 3/8 seats were taken.
Tiramisu, baby warm sandwiches and sautéed vegetables 🥒
The non-Schengen ITA lounge is still a nice change from my usual lounges (thank god I don’t always have access to such copious amounts of pasta).
Lounge staff were actually extremely friendly and the bar staff had espressi with me whilst jokingly denying Americans who wanted cappuccinos after 11am.
Scalding pasta
The bar staff were the clear service highlight
I avoided to ensure I that I would still fit my trousers
Boarding was quick and 3/4 of the seats in business were taken. Deep Italian green mood-lighting fit the cabin well. Passengers were openly in awe of the cabin and many were taking photos - staff were friendly in offering pax to have their photos taken. People shared the extra large front row for photos - namely French passengers who commented that it was nearly identical to the new AF front row in business class.
Impressive amount of space in row 1
Unlike any Alitalia aircraft
Mood-lighting fluctuated between blue and green during boarding
The carpeting was notably stylish, especially with the marble-like pattern on the privacy walls
I feel that the light crème seats will age quickly with heavy use
Row 2 had more than enough space
Staff preemptively brought sparkling water and hand towels after boarding and the cabin manager introduced himself in Italian, English or French according to the passengers.
Stowed side tables were all openly taped shut upon boarding and the cabin crew noted that a fix was coming so that they would not slide open during taxi and take off. Once in the air I removed the tape and found that indeed there is no stopping latch.
I found the cabin noticeably less cold and clinical that in the PR photos - the carpeting and wall designs were high quality and considered.
I reclined into bed mode, but no pillows or blankets were supplied on this short flight - though they may be a nice addition.
Our afternoon flight was well catered, but no choice was given by the cabin crew. A béchamel lasagna and cannoli were served. I had more black coffee and sparkling water.

Very attractive cabin and very private
Before descent caramel chocolates were given to each passenger along with a friendly thank you.
We landed with a very slight delay, but overall I was quite impressed by ITA on both sectors and would gladly fly with them again. I will be back on this aircraft next month and look forward to see if they start loading pillows so that passengers will be able to properly sleep. Staff throughout the day were very friendly and I am beyond curious to see how ITA soft service changes moving forward once LH fully takes the reins.
