That is my understanding too - they are single use.
I think Immigration can see if you have filed a pass, so logically they would only really ask if they cannot see it on their system.
This is one of my exits when I go to update the record post exit (they didn't ask to see any QR code, but clearly they validated it).
The Validation time is around the time I passed through immigration
