I was in the same boat you were in. I started flying CO after a few good experiences and called the onepass hotline to see if I could get temporary staus. They were very gracious, gave me silver for 3 months. After month 1, I was already 15k miles in. I called again and was upgraded to Gold for the same period. At the end of the "trial period", I had accumulated 48k EQM's in 3 months! By the way, this was from 10/1-12/31. I called back at on 1/3 as I was told to do and he granted me Gold for all of 2005. I was tempted to ask for Plat, but I figured he was generous enough and didnt want to bit off more than I could chew.

Long story short, I practically earned Gold in 3 months, and they gave it to me. No reason you shouldn't be able to ask for the same. Like you, I already have 6k EQM's in Jan, and I still have a EWR-DEN on Wednesday and a EWR-LAX-SFO-EWR on 1/24.
