Yes, I am aware of potential for complications from irops to be on separate PNRs/airlines, that is not part of the question.
Awards are prime flight numbers. Not a codesahare.
So looking to book
- a ticket on an AA marketed AA operated flight with cash for yourself
- a ticket on an AA marketed AA operated flight with IB avios for minor child
If the flights are not the same flight number may be a lot more difficult.
