I may hold the record for the worst impact for route change. I had a 3-segment award ticket for LIM-PTY-BOG-LAX in May 2024 (issued by Asiana, like
zeer0 ), which I already considered to be on the complex side between 2 markets with a direct flight, but was willing to take it b/c BOG-LAX was supposed to be lie flat J, and to use an award sweet spot that's likely to be history after the KE merger.
I was never notified by Asiana or Avianca that the itin had at some pt changed to a whopping 5 segments! LIM-PTY-BOG-SJO-SAL-LAX, and the last 3 segments are all in economy (listed as X class on Asiana.com, which I assume is economy) - on a J ticket. I almost want to fly this just for the absurdity. Seriously, someone (even if it's a computer) had the audacity to suggest this change.
Interestingly, SAL-LAX (AV528) is shown with A320, not A330 as mentioned upthread, and indeed Google Flight shows no AV J on this route for May 2024, so the situation keeps getting worse. With 5 months before departure, I assume the aircraft and route can still change (to my benefit or detriment).
I'm hoping I'll find something on Copa which has lie-flat between PTY and LAX (and is how we're getting to LIM on the outbound). I would like to avoid AV altogether if possible. I, too, envy those who booked to EZE with AC who has its own metal. I'm at the mercy of Asiana's Star Alliance operating partners, and at least one of them is human waste.
