Agreed that $15K/50K is a poor SUB or retention offer. But, as we used to say in the Navy, when on a ship in the middle of nowhere in the days before email and mobile phones when communication with the rest of the world was every few days COD (carrier onboard delivery) hard copy snail mail, “better to get a letter of reprimand than no mail at all.”

I mean (sometimes) it’s better to get a poor SUB (or retention offer) than no SUB at all. Bear in mind that, as blitzen implies, this card’s base earning in 2/$ so if this SUB is received it’s $15K/80K. 12 months also changes the spend/reward/opportunity cost equation. And of course, one person’s meat is another person’s poison.

Some people here charge 7 figures total annually, for them almost any SUB is a drop in the ocean. Some charge far less, for them a SUB is a greater percentage of their total annual charges. I’m somewhere in between. Being essentially risk free, in the absence or relative lack of other SUBs, it’s a viable offer to be considered.

Best to you,
