Dan,

most US hotels have no issues (never had any) w/ GCs and even internationally, I have a 90% success rate. The online thing sounds like a good idea, but cards get used between booking and the stay and honestly, this would probably be a worse mess. Now, I am with you that for e.g. pre-paid stays they could figure out a way to use a GC - probably so rare that it’s not worth implementing
