Well, at least you were awake then! (I usually ask them to just head to the GW out of Old Town and bypass Rt 1 altogether.)

currently 1+45 into my ORD layover with another ~45 min before boarding the SEA flight
Re the bag drop - to avoid that, go downstairs to the kiosks next to TSA. The agents there take the bags. Too bad no Metro that early for you because that is right there getting off from the northbound exit. Of course that is AA only. Don’t recall if DL has similar on the other side.
