I don’t see what’s confusing about it. The 1:1 MQD earn is for Delta purchases. Period. It’s not Delta purchases
for yourself, it’s just Delta purchases. It has nothing to do with the actual flight MQD earning, which will go to the person who the ticket is for, the same way it always has.
It’s no different than the current 3x SkyMiles for Delta purchases. You get all of those miles regardless of who the tickets (or whatever else) were purchased for.
Delta wants people using Delta-branded cards to buy from Delta because they save on the merchant fees. This is just a new way to encourage that.
