Does BA Gold automatically equal oneworld Sapphire?

Hello,

Having travelled a lot with work, I am fortunate to be a Gold Executive Club Member with British Airways. I would like to purchase a personal Qantas flight and am looking for advice on the best way to book it.

I think I know the answer to this but I've had trouble finding the specifics online. Am I right in thinking that my BA Gold account automatically gives me access to oneworld Emerald, or does that need to be gained separately? For example, if I book an economy seat, am I still able to use priority boarding and have access to the lounges, or do I need to accrue that through the Qantas system?

Also, since I don't have any airmiles with Qantas, would you recommend that I start to earn them or should I nominate BA as my frequent flier and consolidate them in one place?

Realistically, I'm going to maintain my BA Gold account through work, but I'm likely to use Qantas quite a bit from a personal perspective.

Many thanks,
Jim
