My employer pays for the work trip.
I choose to stay with friends/family and company pays me $150 in cash per day & $100 cash per day for rental car.
I have aerophobia and fly once in a year for personal vacations. I mostly do road trips under 15 hrs. and dont stay much in hotels (have friends/family everywhere :-)).
