I assume same is true for any such connection regardless of operating airlines. Of course, you need to have connecting ticket; I'm unsure if there's airside transfer counter to get the ticket.
I have been at an airside transfer counter to issue tickets for BR. Not sure about CI as never flew them. I can check with them later this month in about 10 days time.
