Just rented a Subaru Solterra at OAK and what a mess it was figuring out how to charge, even in the charger rich Bay Area. There are multiple apps, each with slightly different information. I knew that I needed a CCS charger to get fast charging, but both times I showed up at one there were only a few of them with a couple broken and the others occupied. I never actually successfully charged the car, and turned it in with a minimal charge. They only charged me $0.99 for returning under 70%, but I won't be renting an electric vehicle again unless it's a Tesla.
