Bit of speculation, but from the view from the wing article, sounds like there will be milestone rewards in between status tiers, with one of the benefits being to earn "more miles", ie, return to original bonus amount.

The benefit, I assume, is you get the flexibility to trade off. For example, you earn less RDM, but get extra lounge passes? Extra GGUs? Free wifi passes? We'll have to see what they announce and if it's actually increased flexibility, or if it's just a devalue.
