I am booking a flight for my husband and myself from SEA to New York (any airport) using a companion fare certificate. We cannot book in First, but we can book a First Class Upgrade for an extra $200 (for both of us). However, all the flights but the red-eye (which is not an option for us) say the First upgrades are “waitlisted”. What are the chances we will actually get into First? I have never tried this before but I am tempted, as my husband in particular hates being seated next to an overly large person like he was on his most recent trip to NYC. The extra $200 is less than the cost of two seats in Premium Class ($268). Or I could just take Exit Row seats and hope for the best.
Alaska isn't particularly generous releasing U space on that route before the upgrade window. Hard to say and will depend on loads for your specific flight.
