I like the idea of a map. You could show them quite a bit on the map-- gates, etc, also that the ladies and gents bathrooms inside the airport can be quite far apart sometimes.
The little necklace pouches for passports and boarding passes might be helpful to keep the documents handy during the security checks.
It can be confusing to read the arrivals/departures monitor, so be sure to tell them that it might be listed by departure times OR alphabetically by airport code.
