Basically my point is, what is there after this? Every time I fly, it seems no different than if I were to have Gold status or even if I were to buy a Koru lounge membership. And my bags still come out not first but waitable.

Yes there is a significant hole in the programme after achieving the 2400 SP Banked Year. There is no incentive to achieve any further, the 3000 gifts are not worth any effort.This must lose NZ a significant amount of business. There is no higher level, better lounges or lifetime status. Although you can stack up enough banked years to stay Elite for a very long time.
And yes, I agree, basically Elites don't get any different treatment. If you don't use your upgrades, and can't use your parking vouchers, there is virtually no personal benefit over Koru or Gold.
