Whilst we were rebooked on to DL0004, we arrived at JFK more than 3hrs late and I therefore submitted a claim for EU261 compensation.

BA have responded to reject the claim on the basis of the inbound flight being delayed - ultimately, the primarily reason still remains a delay. Is the delay of an inbound flight a valid reason to reject a claim?
It will depend on the reason for the delay to the flight. If it's all down as rotational delay from the outbound flight from LHR, it will come down to why that flight was late.

How long before departure did you get to the BP scan point? There's a possible point to be made about involuntarily denied boarding if you could have made the flight.
