Prior to the December 1 procedure change, the purser had a script for when the seat belt sign came on upon descent. Then, a few minutes later upon the 10,000 ft double-chime, the purser read another script... which contained some new instructions but also several reminder instructions that had been covered in the previous announcement.
Post-December 1… on 3 of 3 mainline flights of mine this past weekend, the purser read both scripts one right after the other upon the seat-belt sign turn-on. It was more than 3 minutes of PA time… with a lot of duplicative information since the two scripts were read back to back. It was especially brutal on one flight with a purser who spoke with a very harsh dialect and many pauses/stumbles/bumbles… all with an especially loud PA volume.
Hopefully United will update the scripts for the purser announcements given this policy change… to combine the two scripts into one… eliminating the the duplication… and get the PA time back into the more reasonable 1-2 minute range.
