Hey, this sounded really familiar to me too but I too was wondering if I was losing my mind. So I went back and looked at old confirmation emails and found a couple from U.S. HGI properties where it was exactly what OP noted - dates of stay and room type in the confirmation email but nothing about cost. And then I've found confirmation emails from different reservations at the exact same properties that did include price. So no rhyme or reason whatsoever, but OP definitely is not making this up.
