Hotel Booking Confirmation Without Pricing

Sorry if this is a known issue nothing turned up in a quick search.

I just completed a stay at Hilton Toronto and got my emailed invoice and thought the room rate per night looked a little higher than I had remembered. Not just CAD/USD but actually higher.

I hadn’t kept detailed notes anywhere on it, was just a quick trip, but being curious I fished around in my email looking for the confirmation email just to make sure I was remembering things correctly.

But that’s where it got interesting. My confirmation email on booking doesn’t say anything at all about the price.

it just has the confirmation number and dates and the hotel and a button that says “view booking details” that links to the Hilton website. When clicked it just takes me to the folio for the stay that was just completed.

This seems like an extreme “dark pattern” in digital commerce terms. What exactly are you supposed to do if you show up at the property and there’s a disagreement on the rate of the stay? How could you ever prove you were right?

Without an email from them to you, there’s no actual record of your agreement. Sure you could have a screen shot, but that’s trivial to alter and doesn’t actually prove the details of your booking the way an email would.

Am I the first one to notice this or is this an active issue others have raised concern about?
