I would also point out the 300 (actually 350 mile) rule. I suspect the city involved here is DUS, where network changes have been noted elsewhere. If so, then I suspect rebooking via FRA and claiming the ICE train fare for the 80 minute trip would be more plausble than some of the other suggestions upthread.
