Website booking upgrade requests disabled after January (expiration)?
UPDATED
For days now, I've been trying to use the website to book a RT international ticket, starting mid-January and returning early March, and using Plus Points for upgrade requests. (I can't remember the last time the upgrades were actually available during booking; it's always waitlisted.)
But the website is only showing upgrade requests for the outbound, not the return. I've looked at many dates and it appears that there's no way to make requests for upgrades after January.
I spoke with the ticket agent on the phone and she said something about problems but wasn't specific, but indicated she would pup in a support ticket.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Also, does anyone know if the website has its own phone support number anymore? There used to be one but I can't find it.
UPDATE: Replies here have the answer: My points will expire Jan. 31. Unfortunately, United's system doesn't seem to realize that I'm going to be 1K again, which means a new batch of points will appear. It's kind of crazy that their system doesn't account for this.
Further update: It took a supervisor to get it done, but UA put some of next year's points into the account and will deduct them from the batch that will arrive in January.
My situation is admittedly unusual. I don't fly enough anymore to get 1K the usual way, but I'm lifetime 1K due to being a 3-million miler.
I urged the Mileage Plus people to deposit the annual batch in two tranches, in January and July. This would let people whose points will expire in January be able to book flights with upgrade requests for later in the year.
This entire post definitely falls under the category of "First World Problems..."
