Related question -- if we miss the 1050 LCY AMS flight will BA automatically roll us to next available seats on that route? Or are we on are own?
Another question - am I better off taking the daytime AA ORD-LHR, spending the night in London and taking the train from St Pancras to AMS? Costwise - not a lot of difference between the alternatives
4:15 on same ticket is fine ... Unless you've got an insane amount of luggage I'd take the train .. faster, much cheaper and more predictable journey times ... traffic at that hour in the morning is bad, just takes one accident somewhere to really snarl things up .. driving to LCY will be slower for sure, only question is how much slower ! ... To make the train relatively hassle free and avoid the worst traffic what you could do is take it to Canary Wharf ( Elizabeth line .. one train all the way takes about 50 minutes) and then take the short cab ride ( 10-15 minutes ) from there to LCY .. not really any quicker than train all the way but saves messing around with transfers etc.
Daytime flight and train the next morning .. you could do that sure, but it would be a very short overnight as that flight gets in very late and the early Amsterdam train is pretty early ( and Eurostar do their best to take some of the worst bits of flying in terms of security/queueing and apply them to the train so you need to be there a fair bit before your train goes ) .. so you wouldn't exactly be doing much other than a very short hotel stay.
