I take the point, but latitude fares from the UK are significantly more expensive than from the rest of Europe, e.g., generally ime close to $500 for a return trip. (I never buy standard or flex so am not sure this is a stable pattern across fare brands, but it probably is.) Maybe AC is eating the $200 for the additional taxes because they ultimately bake it into what we eat every time we book ex-UK trips.
