Using AA miles, keeping the connection to LHR is an 8 hour layover. I'd rather get to AMS 4 hours earlier and don't mind spending time in the car for transfer or taking the risk of flat tire or other oddity. But if 4 hours for the LHR-LCY transfer is cutting it close even without a disaster, I'll reconsider.
