These seats/tables actually debuted on the 319/320s, and they do not get better with age.
Not sure how UA messed this up so badly. It's like AA's horrible Oasis F seat that no one actually sat in before they were ordered.
I'm on a 319 right now... I certainly recognized the design when I first saw it on the MAX, but there have been some changes, like the seat back screen on the MAX, along with the velcroed seat panels that seem to intermittently fall off.
Maybe just my opinion, but it does seem like these older ones were built better and work smoother than the new ones.
I can't imagine being the person who ordered these at United.... somebody somewhere must care... at least a little.
