Speaking of Bangkok metro history, here's one of the peculiarities that I'm curious about: why was the Silom line never extended further west, but just ends in a giant stub in the middle of the Rama I road just beyond National Stadium? It obviously was originally intended for this to happen, but now, according to Wikipedia, the new MRT Orange subway line will cover much of the route that was originally intended for the Silom line.

I guess Silom line was just intended as a extension to the south (Silom, Sathorn and later across the river to Thonburi) from the main Sukhumvit line connecting at Siam BTS and was extended further west just one station to connect as well the stadium...
