Owning the PNW market since it's not big enough for others to bother
Offering higher dollar direct flights to niche pairings from the west coast
Long haul flights to vacation stops (mostly Hawaii) from the west coast cities

Basically anywhere where they're not just competing on volume. Is SD a hub? Depends on the definition I guess but you make a good case for it being called that. It's good it will have some nice planes now that it will own a few Dreamliners to go along with the max death boxes it signed up for.
