I lived in the Bay Area during those days and took VX a few times to LAS, but most of my spend went to UA. I did not think that VX’s product had a meaningfully better product in coach than UA (especially on those 1-2 hr flights I took) if my choice was an E+ seat near the front of the plane and maybe an upgrade (as a UA elite) vs. 23E in the back of the bus of VX.
You didn't go gaga over the panel screen in front of you? I think you can like text another pax on the flight, though no idea why one would text another pax on such a short flight.
