Maybe if “us SFO folks” had spend more money with VX and then later AS, you would still have the routes or VX as an airline.
I lived in the Bay Area during those days and took VX a few times to LAS, but most of my spend went to UA. I did not think that VX’s product had a meaningfully better product in coach than UA (especially on those 1-2 hr flights I took) if my choice was an E+ seat near the front of the plane and maybe an upgrade (as a UA elite) vs. 23E in the back of the bus of VX.
