Well if passengers are connecting on AC, then there's a chance they are delayed and will never make it to the YYZ or YVR SS lounge. So they'll need to eat on the plane.

I usually fly J on AC and I like to have a meal in the lounge and then meal again on the plane. So I would prefer a full meal service onboard than any paired down service, regardless of departure time.
