In the end, I arrived at my destination over 12 hours later than originally scheduled. Lufthansa ended up refusing my EU261 claim, taking 2 months to reply, big surprise.
I later submitted a complaint to the Luftfahrt Bundesamt, they worked their magic and Lufthansa paid me 600 euros a couple months later. Didn't even have to pay a dime for the using Bundesamt.
I have avoided flying Lufthansa group airlines for the most part since this experience.
