I'll add that IMO SFO is the best major airport in the country. It's great for connections (especially AS, with walks of 3 minutes or less between D gates).
Exactly. AS's management team is for some reason allergic to losses when it comes to putting an investment into new routes but then blows billions on purchasing other airlines which years later add absolutely no value to their stock price. Then they go with the cost cutting to get back to where they were and repeat the process again. You are not going to build up loyalty if customers can't count on you to get them to their destination without having to connect through SEA when they cancel or reduce service on the route. They inherited a small terminal making for super easy connections and with AA moving to T1, plenty of room to grow which they have since pissed away. Now they will be distracted for the next decade figuring out how to get more Japanese tourists to Hawaii to make their next investment work.
