SFO is a lot like a giant LGA: huge o/d and terrible connecting point.
A lot of the animosity for AS here is because they have never really opened a SFO lounge. (They took their time with the old AA lounge and removed the nice furniture.)
I tend to like AS product, and hope they can offer a competitive product at SFO.
Also—AS needs to add flights to SFO from RNO. My personal wish.
I think the pandemic actually saved Alaska money for delaying opening SFO lounge. I think original idea was to open lounge upstairs where the new Maple Leaf Lounge is. That would have been a huge waste of money since AS is moving to terminal 1 next year with a buildout of a new lounge there. Hence the low cost and maintenance of reusing AA's old lounge space.
