I've had no issues keeping the residual for domestic or Europe, but for Asia (at least Japan & HK) they seem to have gone back to enforcing the forfeiture. No luck with HUCA, supervisor, etc. - the fare rules clearly say forfeit and that's the end of the story as far as they're concerned. This was on 016 tickets purchased directly from UA, no TA and no BE. I've recently heard similar stories from others as well for these destinations.
