Indeed, very hit and miss. In my case, a miss out of SFO. SAS' IT capabilities seem rather primitive. At online check-in, using the app, I was asked to scan my passport (the number had already been entered in my record). Apparently the scan didn't take, and I was denied the opportunity to try again. Instead I received a boarding pass for the connecting leg in Europe, but not for the initial leg out of SFO. To get through security earlier in the day, I had to resort to buying a fully refundable domestic ticket with another airline, then cancel it before flight time.
But I was to experience more SAS connectivity problems during my trip, such as non-functional wi-fi (after purchase!) and glitchy app communications when my connecting European flight was cancelled. You get spoiled with US carriers....
