Hawaiian officials may try, probably unsuccessfully. Hawaii residents? What are we really talking about here in terms of numbers? What's the percentage of locals vs. tourists on a given flight? 20 tourists to 1 resident? I've flown off and back on to Maui roughly 20X/year over the last 3 years and honestly can't ever remember sitting next to another resident. The closest thing is maybe someone that has a second residence here. Like so many things on the islands... the locals have no voice. Basically, it's great the locals are loyal but in the grand scheme, sadly, no one will notice or care.
