IMO the complaints about those seats are vastly overblown. I was in row 2 (rear facing) both ways LAX-HND and didn't notice. My parents flew it back from EU (I don't remember the route) and when I asked them about it after the flight they had no idea what I was talking about.
It seems to depend on who is actually in the seats. I was on one of these a few months ago and my "seatmate" complained that I was moving around too much after I adjusted the window shade. Meanwhile, I felt her moving around but didn't find it overly bothersome. Once we got settled after the meal, it was only the occasional vibration and didn't bother me.
