If I recall, AF JFK uses a facial scan, and I'm assuming if one's already in their system (which I assume we all are here in FT land), it should be fine. But, as you've observed, there's inconsistency at times even with the same carrier in the same country, e.g., one time at SFO, AF wanted me to check in at the counter, even though I had already done so online and with mobile BP in hand. So, I'm assuming had I ignore them on this, it would've beeped red during boarding.
I don't mind a beep so long as they don't send me somewhere else to have docs checked.
Now that you mention it, I wonder where they get the face data from - prior flights, US gov't (sends from passport), other?
