Just seems odd that two versions of the same BP would be different in this respect.

I don't recall any airline requiring me to physically present a passport to check-in, but some put Verify Passport or the like on the BP.

So long as whoever wants the passport checked is able to check it (rather than sending me somewhere else), I'm happy.
