Employees have had bag tracking in their app for a LONG time, and I've seen bags with 15 scan points for a non-stop.
There might only be 5 that a pax cares about, but there are a lot more than "3 to 5" places a bag gets scanned.
10 years ago, agents were able for to tell me it my bag had been loaded, as accurately as this "new" system seems to do.
